GOODWOOD TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY RUNNERS

Cat Junior  (3.25pm Tuesday) goes for the Lennox Stakes with a great chance. We've changed from blinkers to a visor and Jamie Spencer will suit his style of racing. We are expecting a big run.

WEDNESDAY

Excelsior Aacademy (Goodwood 2.10pm) is trying the extended trip of two miles and five furlongs in this tough handicap and is therefore going into unknown territory. However he gallops and stays well and, if he gets the trip, he'll have a great chance.

Crown Prosecutor (Goodwood 2.45) We have been very happy with him since his win at Salisbury and think he has an outstanding chance in this Group 2.

Brevity and Mortitia (Goodwood) Although our juveniles ofter need their first run, Brevity, ridden by Martin Dwyer, has been going very well and could go close on debut. Mortitia took time to come out of her Newbury race and that is why she missed Windsor last week. She's been in good form and will appreciate going back to six furlongs.

Manassas (Goodwood 5.45pm) drops back to seven furlongs in a race where the conditions favour him. We are trying blinkers for the first time and that may make a difference.

Secret Gold (Leicester 6.10pm) is a very nice filly who goes well but may need the run.

Aciano (Sandown 6.55pm) got stage fright at Newbury first time out but we expect better for this second run although he may still need the experience.

CROWDED HOUSE RESULT AND WEEKEND WINNERS

It was pleasing that Crowded House came back to form at Del Mar where he finished 4th in Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes on Saturday. Had he been ridden closer to the pace, we think that he would definitely have won.

We were very pleased with the winning performances of the two year old colts Titus Mills and Hammer Home over the weekend and really delighted with the performance of Field Day who took the Listed Valiant Stakes at Ascot with ease. Her main target is the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

SATURDAYS RUNNERS

GALLAGHER (Ascot 3.50) He has a great turn of foot and considering his traffic problems ran very well at Newmarket. SWIFT GIFT, who runs in the same race has been nicely freshened up since Royal Ascot and has a great record over course and distance. Two good chances for us in this always-competitive seven-furlong handicap.

ARABIAN MIRAGE (Newmarket 3.20) She has been in great form since getting her head in front at Leicester, showing a return to something of her smart three-year-old form. She can win again.

HAMMER HOME (Newmarket 3.55) Has come on a lot from his debut run at Doncaster and should run well.

CROWDED HOUSE (8th race Del Mar) note California is eight hours behind UK time. Has a great chance. Travelled over well and we think he's in a good spot.

THURSDAY & FRIDAYS RUNNERS

                                THURSDAY

Star Today (Epsom 7.15) The sharp track should suit her. She possibly did not get the six furlongs on a stiff track last time. Sound chance.

                                  FRIDAY

Titus Mills (Ascot 2.45) He's a very nice colt who may possibly need the race. He goes very well.

Field Day (Ascot 3.20) An authoritative winner at Salisbury and she has improved since. Still only lightly raced with three career runs, she can make the step into Listed class.

Aaim to Prosper (Ascot 3.55) This very consistent stayer loves this course. Has a great chance.

Run Daisy Run (Thirsk 3.10) Didn't enjoy the soft ground at Newbury. Should improve for the better ground here.

Stargazing (Thirsk 3.45) Wasn't right at Goodwood when clearly affected by the yard’s general problems at the time. Possibly better reverting to seven furlongs after trying nine furlongs there.

Wild Rockette (York 6.00) A consistent filly but she has not managed to get her head in front. In good form, though, and will appreciate give in the ground.

Boragh Jamal (York 8.30) Has been in good form since winning at Kempton. Confidence high and will love the ground.

TODAYS RUNNERS

Talk Talk (Leicester 6.15) Gradually improving. Hoping he'll progress for the third run.

Ultravox (Lingfield 4.00) Stepping up to a mile and a half should suit him.

THE GALLOPS REPORT 21st JULY

Two-year-olds were the main focus of attention on the Thursday work morning at Manton. The unraced quartet Brevity, Murbeh, Amhram and Shim Sham all showed plenty of promise in their respective exercises on the polytrack gallop.

Earlier, first lot used Clatford's watered gallop and unbeaten Crown Prosecutor showed he retains his form ahead of his Goodwood objective next week. Ascot winner The Long Game and Newmarket fourth El Muqbil also showed up well in their work.

Cat Junior is another with a Goodwood target – he has the Lennox on his agenda – and he moved well alongside Arcano, who is clearly coming back to his best.

Another on the comeback trail is Inler and this likeable colt went a nice five furlongs on the bridle. Dancing David – Great Voltigeur bound – worked alongside the much-improved Dangerous Midge (in line for a Goodwood Group 3) in a satisfactory exercise.

MONDAY/ TUESDAY RUNNERS AND THE FRIDAY DOUBLE

Friday wins for juvenile Waiter's Dream (impressively in a hot Newbury maiden) and the improving three-year-old handicapper Christmas Carnival at Nottingham, kept up the momentum for Manton on Brian's 43rd birthday.

                           MONDAY

After a quiet Saturday/ Sunday, we're back in action on Monday night at Windsor with a couple of nice two-year-old fillies in a competitive six-furlong maiden. Miss Sinatra is a well-named juvenile (Invincible Spirit - Doitmyway) who has been going very well at home, but may need the race and has a poor draw.

Mortitia is also very nice and has run two very good races, fourth each time at Newbury. She's from a sprinting family, so we're dropping her down in trip, which should suit her. She has a solid chance.

Acheekyone runs later on the Windsor card. He's become a little inconsistent, but has a small each way chance.

                             TUESDAY

We run a couple of promising colts in the six-furlong maiden at Ffos Las. Pearl Arch and Earl of Leitrim both go very nicely but will probably need this initial outing.

WEEKEND REVIEW & MONDAYS RUNNERS

                                Weekend Review

After a successful weekend when we had three winners, there’s plenty of activity on Monday at Ffos Las in the afternoon and Windsor in the evening. Before going into the detail of the forthcoming action, we’ll have a brief look at the latest successes.

On Friday at Ascot, The Long Game built on the promise of his Chepstow debut third with an authoritative win in the Class 3 maiden. Like our other nice early juvenile colts, the unbeaten Crown Prosecutor and speedy Black Moth, he's progressing nicely and will be ready now for a step up in class.

Then on Saturday, we echoed the previous weekend with two more winners, Montparnasse showing his appreciation for a staying trip when winning a mile and threequarter three-year-old handicap at Nottingham, stepping up again on his Windsor initial success.

We have always had a high regard for Field Day and the Ballymacoll Stud filly got her three-year-old season going with a fluent win off 85 at Salisbury. This was only the third run for this promising daughter of Cape Cross, who won her maiden first time at Newmarket last autumn. Better things beckon.

                                 Ffos Las

Pin Cushion (2.20) Has an excellent chance on form, but will not want it too firm. Happily the track is always in good shape and with good to firm, good in places currently and rain forecast, she should be all right.

Woodford Belle (2.50) She is another with a solid chance and she should appreciate the extra distance.

Excelsior Academy (3.50) Developed into a fair staying handicapper last year, but he has been off for a long time and might need the outing.

Manassas (4.20) ran better than his final position might have suggested at Ascot. Looks like a very good spot for him.

                               Windsor

Massachusetts (7.10) Disappointing so far, but he shaped with a bit more promise at Beverley. We hope he can progress from that in this selling company.

Hero from Zero (7.40) is a nice sharp two-year-old by Invincible Spirit, who might need the run.

Onyx of Arabia (8.40) Since getting his head in front on this track last month, he has become a much more solid performer and ran well again at Goodwood. Decent chance.

TODAYS NEWMARKET RUNNERS

Pleasant Day (2.35 Newmarket) He's been running pretty well but we believe he wants a bit further now. Newmarket pay attention to the ground, so the going should be all right for him. Has a good chance in a hot handicap.

Crowded House (3.10 Newmarket) We will monitor the ground for him. He needed his race at Ascot - he had some time off after a little injury and was therefore short of work. We are looking forward to running him.

MONDAY & TUESDAY RUNNERS PLUS THE WEEKEND REVIEW

                                MONDAY

Velvet Underground (7.10 Windsor) He disappointed at Haydock, but he was definitely one of the horses affected by the illness in the yard at the time (late May). Hes a nice colt and has a good draw, so he goes there with a solid chance.

Bernie's Moon (8.40 Windsor) Shes progressing nicely and ran OK when fifth behind some strong colts. Back with her own sex, she has solid claims.

                            TUESDAY

Sarah Park (4.00 Pontefract) Shes very game and always has a genuine chance wherever she runs. This is Listed class, but shes run well at that level before.

Hidden (5.00 Pontefract) This is the third run for this big, strong gelding. Hes a half brother to Junior, who won the Ascot Stakes and like his brother the further he goes, the better he'll get.

Run Daisy Run (4.15 Wolverhampton) She's a nice daughter of Barathea who has been working well with some other promising maiden fillies. She'll probably need the run.

                           WEEKEND REFLECTIONS

It was nice to see Dangerous Midge win the Old Newton Cup at Haydock in such brilliant style. That justified what we've always thought about him. The plan was going to be the Ebor, but no doubt the handicapper will do his best to stop him having much chance in that. It could be that he'll have to move up into stakes races, but Tuesday (and his new mark) will decide that.

Arabian Mirage put up a very pleasing performance to win at Leicester, following her fine run at Thirsk, which showed she was ready. She's a nice, lightly-raced filly who should go on from this.

We were pleased with Black Moth, who won very well at Beverley in first-time blinkers, turning over Ascot form with the favourite. We might move him up a grade now, but there's no rush.

Fleeting Glance might have been a little lucky when the probable winner ducked out close to home at Doncaster, but it was pleasing how she grasped the opportunity. She's going on well, and as this was only her second run, she looks a decent prospect.

After the quiet spell, it was nice to have four winners from only eight weekend runners. The horses seem to be very well now and we are hoping for a productive July.
